Running for Indi - Fighting for Stroke Awareness One Step at a Time.

Taylah and her closest friend Sam are running 7km for something deeply personal—Taylah's daughter, Indi. At birth, Indi became one of the rare 1 in 120 babies to suffer a stroke. It’s a heartbreaking reality for Taylah, and an incredibly rare one—less than 1% of newborns experience this. But for Taylah and Indi, this statistic is their daily fight.

A stroke at birth is a diagnosis no parent expects. It’s a life-altering event that changes everything in an instant. But Indi is not defined by the odds stacked against her. She’s a fighter. And despite being one of only 1 in 120 babies affected, her story is also part of a much larger, urgent conversation.

Every 11 minutes, someone in the world suffers a stroke. That’s someone’s mother, father, child, or friend. Every single minute, the ripple effect of stroke touches lives. Yet, so many don’t realize that strokes can—and do—occur at any age. Stroke awareness isn’t just for older adults—it's critical at every stage of life, especially for families like Taylah’s, whose daughter’s journey began before her first breath.

For Taylah, this 7km run is an emotional tribute to her daughter’s resilience and the countless other families fighting similar battles. It’s about raising awareness for stroke survivors and those impacted, no matter their age. It’s about honoring every child who, like Indi, is learning to walk, talk, and live through the aftermath of an event that most people never imagine could happen to a newborn.

And for Sam, this run is more than just supporting her best friend—it’s about standing alongside Taylah through the darkest, most uncertain times. While she can't take away the pain of watching her daughter struggle, she can run beside her, proving that love and friendship are forces of strength in the face of the most difficult challenges.

Taylah and Sam are running to ensure that the conversation about stroke awareness expands beyond the elderly, beyond the usual statistics. They're running for the children, the babies, and the families who often feel isolated in their struggles. Every kilometer they complete is more than just a race—it’s a message to the world that stroke doesn't discriminate, and neither does the power of love, hope, and resilience.
