Prevent Stroke. Savel Lives. Enhance Recovery

Iโ€™m making a difference by fundraising for Stroke Foundation to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery for survivors of stroke.

In the next 11 minutes, someone, somewhere in Australia is going to have a stroke.

Stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and doesn't discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. And incredibly, around 600 Australian children experience stroke each year.

By supporting me, you'll be contributing to sustaining vital programs and resources that Stroke Foundation provides, including:

๐Ÿ’™ Preventing Stroke:

  • StrokeSafe Talks
  • Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check
  • Information Resources

ย ๐Ÿ’™ Saving Lives:

  • F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Signs of Stroke Awareness
  • Living Guidelines for Stroke Management
  • InformMe Website for Health Professionals

ย ๐Ÿ’™ Enhancing Recovery:

  • StrokeLine
  • My Stroke Journey
  • EnableMe Website for Survivors of Stroke

Your support goes beyond just a donation; it's a lifeline for individuals at risk of stroke and survivors of stroke.

Thank you for supporting me. Together we can change the state of stroke in Australia for generations to come.

My Updates

My stroke

Wednesday 2nd Apr
I had a stroke whilst asleep aged 37 in July 2015. This meant no time for F.A.S.T. diagnosis and immediate intervention. I realised that I'd suffered a stroke in the morning due to slurred speech and recognition with work colleagues (my inability to eat toast properly!). I still remember the mental concentration needed to form words clearly on that first day. This is a persistent disability for some stroke victims.ย

Whilst my clot was relatively large, I was fortunate to have a full recovery in 2-3 days. Doctors were, however, inconclusive on the cause... recent international travel? Moderate alcohol intake? Crossfit workouts?ย  Dehydration? I received awesome treatment in Australia, but the medical world still lacks answers. I think exercise is better than no exercise but within realistic margins ...

I'm fundraising to further knowledge as to what causes strokes to assist in those 131 daily cases. Not everyone is as lucky as me...

Anyway, my challenge is x 4. 131km per week, running or walking. Bring it on!
