I'm walking 131km this May for Stroke Foundation
hi all, i’m excited to challenge myself in may by walking 131km and raising funds for stroke foundation! this one is really personal to me.
for those who don’t know much about me, my dad is one of my favourite people alive. i always thought my dad was invincible. he was always running around with us, making us laugh, cooking insanely good food and supporting us when life felt scary and strange.
however back in 2023, my dad survived five strokes. it completely flipped my world upside down. overnight, everything changed. with my naive thinking, i thought he’d be out of hospital the next day because “dad never gets sick”. this was so far from our new reality. he had to relearn how to move his body again, walk, write, talk and now adapt to this new reality of what life is like post stroke.
before my dads struggles, i knew almost nothing about strokes. i honestly thought they were the same as heart attacks. going through this beside him, showed me just how life-altering strokes are and how they are not only for the person experiencing them, but for their families and the people caring for them too.
every day in australia, 131 people will have a stroke. it certainly doesn’t discriminate, it can affect anyone, anytime. and while survival is incredible, recovery can be long, complex, and deeply challenging.
that’s why this matters so much to me. i want to help raise awareness so more people understand the signs of stroke, act quickly, and have a better understand of the impact it has on survivors, caregivers, and families.
by supporting my challenge, you’re helping stroke foundation:
• prevent strokes through education and awareness
• save lives by improving recognition and response (f.a.s.t.)
• support recovery for survivors and their families
your support means more than just a donation! it helps people learn, act faster, and feel less alone in something that can be incredibly overwhelming.
thank you so much for being part of this with me!
