My 100km walk from Portsea to Port Melbourne.

As many people reading this know I lost my Mum very unexpectedly on the 2nd of February 2024. A day that will be ingrained as the worst day in my entire life.

My Mum was my World, along with my boys. Navigating the World without her has been a daily challenge. But i just keep on going.

I fairly quickly started thinking I wanted to raise money for the stroke foundation. I have done many walks and runs for charity in the past. But this was different. Here are the whys...

Why 100km?

I have done marathons. I have done long walks. I have walked the thames path in the uk. But this for me had to be bigger. This means more to me than any of the past ones.

Why the Peninsula to Port Melbourne?

Anyone who knew my Mum knows her most favourite place was the beach...any beach. And there will be a lot of memories to walk through as i navigate from Portsea to Port Melbourne.

Why Stroke Foundation?

One...I am walking for my Mum. Who was the biggest fighter of all. Surviving a massive ischaemic stroke 31 years ago, and devastatingly losing her fight to a haemorrhagic stroke this year.

Two...For me, because in 3 short years I will be the same age as my Mum was when she had her first stroke.

Three...For anyone who can benefit in anyway from any money that I raise by doing this walk and drawing more attention to the dangers of stroke.

I will be completing this walk over 3 or possibly 4 days in the Victorian Term 3 school holidays. The date will be confirmed nearer the time based on weather and tide times on one section of the walk.

Finally I appreciate anyones support with this. Even $5 will be amazing and greatly appreciated. Or even coming along on one of my training walks.

I'm raising funds and awareness for Stroke Foundation to help prevent, treat and beat stroke.

Stroke attacks the brain, the human control centre, changing lives in an instant. It can happen to anyone, at any age and affects everyone differently.

Few people will think about stroke until it touches their life.

It’s estimated more than 27,400 people will have a stroke in Australia for the first time in 2022, equating to one stroke every nineteen minutes.

Today, there are over 445,000 people in our community whose lives have been changed by stroke and their number is growing.

Stroke Foundation is a national charity that partners with the community to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.

With your support, Stroke Foundation can provide support to those affected right now and fund research to fight stroke.

Join me today in making a difference to stroke prevention, treatment and care.

You are a wonderful mother, and I know the grief of losing your own mum has been difficult. Whilst I know this is a loss that has hit you so deeply, your motivation and will is truly inspirational. This walk is such an incredible way to honour your mum and raise money for a great cause. I am so proud of this accomplishment for you and wish you all the best for the full 100km.
