What is The Big Cutback?
The Big Cutback is a fundraising challenge where participants cut back on a habit—like alcohol or sugar—for the month of March. By cutting back, participants raise awareness and funds to support vital stroke prevention initiatives like StrokeSafe Speaker Program; Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check; and Information Resources.
How does it work?
- Choose a habit to cut back during March, such as alcohol, sugar or another daily habit.
- Register online to set up your fundraising page.
- Invite friends and family to support your journey or join you in the challenge.
- Raise funds and spread awareness to help prevent strokes for more Australians.

Why do I need to cut back on something?
Cutting back on a habit is a symbolic act of commitment. It not only challenges you personally but also makes it easier to start conversations about stroke prevention.
Every conversation you spark and donation you raise helps us educate communities about stroke risk and prevention.
Where does the money go?
Funds raised go directly to Stroke Foundation to support vital stroke prevention initiatives like StrokeSafe Speaker Program; Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check; and Information Resources.
Can I choose what I cut back?
Yes! Whether it’s alcohol, sugar, coffee, fast food or even TV, choose something meaningful for you. The goal is to make a personal commitment that encourages conversations and fundraising.
How do I fundraise?
Once registered, you’ll receive a personal fundraising page to share with friends, family, and on social media.
Share why you’re participating, your goal, and updates throughout the month to encourage donations.
We also have a range of fundraising resources available on you fundraising dashboard.
How can I encourage others to join?
Ask friends, family, and colleagues to take on the challenge with you!
Sharing your journey on social media, or simply asking people in your network to give up something with you can help build support.
Do I have to raise a certain amount?
There’s no minimum, but every dollar counts!
Set a personal fundraising goal that feels achievable and share your progress with supporters throughout the month.
What support will I receive?
Upon registration, you’ll receive access to fundraising tips, social media graphics, and support materials.
The Community Fundraising & Events Team at Stroke Foundation are here to support you every step of the way and you can reach out to them if you have any questions or need any support.
